Release of Patchy version 5

Julius Zoll

The 3 major steps forward taken with this version 5 are:

  1. it is now possible to freely change a Pam file with an editor, constructing later, if needed, an update cradle by comparing the final against the original Pam file using the new Patchy auxiliary Nydiff.

  2. in order that such a cradle constructed with Nydiff may be completely general it is now possible to insert "delayed control-lines" under control of a +ADD or +REPLACE to become operational when the insertion target is processed.

  3. the new Patchy auxiliary Nyshell can be used on Unix machines and on the VAX to automatically select for re-compilation all routines whose source or include files have changed, for a set of routines which together make up a library for one package.

This paper is a conversion guide, and also an update on the existing Patchy documentation until the reference manual is updated.
